Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to speed up work on the M-4 Motorway.
The minister wants the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section expanded from four lanes to six lanes. Authorities have been directed to complete the expansion by December 15.
Aleem Khan issued the instructions while chairing a meeting on development projects. The meeting focused on projects under the NHA Central Region.
Officials briefed the minister about progress on several motorway and national highway schemes. He instructed them to follow the approved timelines for ongoing projects.
The minister also directed authorities to accelerate construction activities on the M-4 Motorway. The Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section is among the projects under review.
The expansion will increase the number of lanes on the existing motorway section. Authorities are expected to speed up work to meet the December deadline.
Aleem Khan also reviewed progress on the Lodhran-Multan Expressway. He directed officials to maintain progress on the project and meet its required targets.
The meeting also covered preliminary work on the Lala Musa Bypass. The bypass is planned along the N-5 National Highway.
The minister instructed the authorities to expedite the initial work on the bypass. He also said rehabilitation work on the Baba Farid Bridge would begin soon.
The bridge is located over the River Sutlej. Its rehabilitation is part of the infrastructure projects discussed during the meeting.
Officials also discussed plans to connect the Layyah and Taunsa bridges with nearby highways. These projects are aimed at improving road connections in South Punjab.
Aleem Khan further directed officials to ensure quality construction at the Phool Nagar Interchange. The interchange is located on the N-5 National Highway.
He also called for modern requirements to be included in new infrastructure projects. These requirements include improved lighting and better-quality infrastructure.
The minister also emphasized the need for properly developed rest areas on new highways. He directed authorities to consider modern facilities during project development.
For future infrastructure planning, Aleem Khan suggested using the Islamabad-Murree Expressway as a model. The direction focuses on modern standards for highway development.
The M-4 Motorway expansion is part of broader road infrastructure work being monitored by the communications ministry. The government is reviewing several projects in the NHA Central Region.
Authorities have been asked to accelerate ongoing schemes and meet their prescribed completion targets. The instructions cover motorway, expressway, bridge, bypass, and interchange projects.
