The Punjab government has announced revised labor rates for government development projects and construction work across the province. The updated wage schedule will remain effective from July to December 2026 and will be used for estimating the cost of public-sector projects.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Department, the revised rates apply to workers engaged in government-funded construction and development schemes. The new schedule covers unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers.
Under the updated notification, the daily wage for unskilled workers has been fixed at Rs. 1,538. These workers perform general labor that does not require specialized technical skills.
The government has also revised wages for skilled workers. Masons, electricians, plumbers, welders, and other skilled professionals will now receive Rs. 2,000 per day for work on government projects.
Semi-skilled workers have also received revised wage rates. Gardeners, chainmen, and similar categories of workers will be paid Rs. 1,560 per day under the new schedule.
In addition to daily wages, the Punjab government has fixed the minimum monthly wage at Rs. 40,000. This rate applies to workers employed on a monthly basis under the relevant government projects.
The revised wage schedule will be used while preparing cost estimates for public-sector development schemes. Government departments responsible for planning and executing projects will calculate labor costs according to the updated rates.
Officials expect the revised labor charges to affect the overall cost of government construction projects. Since labor expenses make up an important part of project budgets, updated wage rates may lead to changes in estimated project costs.
The Finance Department has formally notified all concerned departments about the revised rates. The notification covers the next six months, from July through December 2026.
Government agencies involved in infrastructure and development work have been directed to follow the updated wage schedule while preparing estimates and awarding contracts. Contractors working on public-sector projects are also expected to apply the revised labor rates.
