The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that river water levels across the province could rise over the coming days, although most rivers are currently flowing within normal limits. The authority has also issued flash flood and urban flooding alerts for several areas as monsoon activity continues.
According to the PDMA, low-level flooding is currently being recorded at Kalabagh on the Indus River and Khanki on the Chenab River. Water inflow at Kalabagh has been measured at 269,000 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 262,000 cusecs. At Khanki, the inflow has reached 113,000 cusecs, with an outflow of 106,000 cusecs.
The authority said river levels remain within normal limits at several important monitoring points across Punjab. These include Marala, Qadirabad, Trimmu, and Panjnad on the Chenab River. Normal flows have also been recorded at Jassar, Shahdara, Sidhnai, and Balloki on the Ravi River.
Similarly, water levels remain normal at Ganda Singh Wala, Sulemanki, and Head Islam on the Sutlej River. The PDMA also reported normal water flows at Tarbela, Chashma, and Taunsa on the Indus River, as well as in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Despite the current situation, the PDMA has cautioned that river water levels may increase until July 24 due to ongoing monsoon rains. A flash flood alert has been issued for the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, where heavy rainfall could trigger sudden flooding.
The authority has also warned of possible urban flooding in the Lahore, Bahawalnagar, and Rawalpindi divisions, advising local administrations to remain prepared and monitor weather conditions closely.
PDMA Director General Umar Abbas said flood relief camps have already been established in vulnerable areas to assist affected communities if needed. He urged residents to remain alert, follow official safety instructions, and avoid visiting rivers, canals, streams, and other water bodies for recreational activities during the current weather conditions.
The PDMA said it is continuously monitoring the flood situation and coordinating with district administrations to ensure a timely response to any emergency. Citizens have been advised to stay updated through official weather and disaster management advisories.
