A Karachi woman has filed a civil suit in the City Court seeking more than Rs130 million in compensation from a water tanker owner and its driver following the tragic death of her husband. The petition claims the fatal accident has left the family facing severe financial hardship after losing its sole breadwinner.
According to the lawsuit, the victim, Talha Zaheer, was fatally run over by a water tanker in March 2026. His wife argues that his untimely death has caused immense emotional and financial suffering for his legal heirs, who now face an uncertain future without their primary source of income.
The petition holds both the owner of the water tanker and the driver legally responsible for the accident. It seeks compensation exceeding Rs130 million, claiming the defendants’ alleged negligence resulted in the loss of Talha Zaheer’s life and caused lasting hardship for his family.
The case comes at a time of growing public concern over the increasing number of accidents involving heavy water tankers on Karachi’s roads. Several recent incidents have sparked outrage among residents, raising questions about road safety, traffic enforcement, and the regulation of tanker operations across the city.
In one recent incident on Karachi’s Karimabad Bridge, an angry crowd attacked a water tanker driver and vandalised the vehicle after a motorcyclist was injured. The incident reflected mounting frustration over repeated accidents involving heavy vehicles and demands for stricter action against reckless driving.
Responding to the public’s concerns, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the introduction of a barcode-based identification and tracking system for all registered water tankers. The city administration says the initiative aims to improve transparency, monitor tanker movements, and help curb the activities of illegal water tanker operators while enhancing road safety across Karachi.
