Pakistan Launches InvestPak Investment Portal

Pakistan has officially launched the InvestPak Portal, a new digital platform that enables individual and corporate investors to invest directly in government securities. The initiative aims to reduce the government’s dependence on commercial banks for borrowing while encouraging greater private-sector lending.

Speaking at the launch ceremony on Monday, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb described the platform as the start of a new era for investment in Pakistan. He said the portal would broaden the government’s investor base while supporting the country’s ongoing digital transformation and financial inclusion efforts.

Developed by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the InvestPak Portal digitizes the investment process for government securities, making participation in the fixed-income market more accessible for both retail and institutional investors.

Aurangzeb said reducing excessive government borrowing from commercial banks has become a key policy priority, as it has historically limited banks’ ability to provide financing to businesses. By attracting retail investors and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), the government hopes banks will be able to allocate more funds toward private-sector credit and economic growth.

The finance minister also encouraged NBFIs to play a greater role in the government securities market, noting that their business models and asset-liability management structures make them well-suited for such investments.

Highlighting the importance of technology, Aurangzeb said digital investment platforms can make investing “faster, cheaper and better,” while expanding access to government securities for ordinary Pakistanis. He added that although participation in Pakistan’s equity market has increased significantly over the past 12 to 18 months, investment in fixed-income instruments has remained relatively low, and the InvestPak Portal is expected to help bridge that gap.
