A four-year-old girl suffered critical burn injuries after her family allegedly set her on fire during a ritual they believed would remove black magic and evil spirits from her body. The shocking incident took place in Gujranwala, where police have arrested the girl’s mother and three siblings in connection with the case.
According to police, the girl sustained burns to nearly 50 percent of her body and was initially provided medical assistance before being shifted to a hospital in Lahore for specialized treatment. Doctors are continuing to monitor her condition.
Initial findings suggest that the family believed the girl was under the influence of supernatural forces. Investigators said the ritual was carried out in an attempt to free her from what they considered black magic and evil spirits. Authorities have not confirmed any evidence supporting those beliefs.
After receiving information about the incident, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers arrested the girl’s mother, her two brothers, and one sister. According to officials, the suspects resisted police during the arrest, but were eventually taken into custody.
Law enforcement authorities are now collecting evidence and recording statements to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
In a separate incident highlighting similar beliefs, a man in Rawalpindi recently filed a First Information Report (FIR), claiming that a jinn had abducted his 11-year-old son. He alleged that supernatural entities had taken the boy on several previous occasions. Authorities are also looking into that case.
The Gujranwala incident has once again raised concerns about harmful practices linked to superstition and misinformation. Officials have urged the public to seek medical and psychological help instead of relying on dangerous rituals that can put lives at risk.
Police said the investigation into the girl’s case is ongoing, and further details will be shared as the inquiry progresses. Authorities have assured that those responsible will face legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
