Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has renewed its international aviation safety registration for another cycle.
The national airline has retained its IOSA registration for the 12th consecutive time. The latest renewal remains valid until September 11, 2028.
The renewal was announced after Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Anwar Ali Hyder became chairman of PIA.
However, the latest safety assessment was completed before his appointment. The Risk-Based IATA Operational Safety Audit took place in June 2026.
The assessment was conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It evaluated PIA against internationally recognized aviation safety and operational standards.
PIA successfully completed the required assessment during the audit process. The evaluation covered several major areas of the airline’s operations.
These areas included flight operations and cabin operations. Ground handling and cargo services were also examined during the assessment.
The IOSA system is an internationally recognized safety evaluation framework developed by IATA. It assesses an airline’s operational management and control systems.
The program provides a standardized approach to reviewing airline safety and operational procedures.
PIA described its latest IOSA renewal as an important milestone. The airline has now maintained its registration through 12 consecutive renewal cycles.
The latest registration will remain effective for nearly two years. PIA will continue operating under the applicable IOSA requirements during this period.
The audit covered operational areas that are essential to airline safety. Flight operations form a major part of the assessment.
Cabin operations were also reviewed as part of the audit. The assessment also examined ground handling procedures.
Cargo services were included in the evaluation as well. These operations play an important role in the airline’s overall safety framework.
The renewal comes as PIA continues working through organizational changes. The appointment of a new chairman took place after the latest audit was completed.
This means the June assessment was conducted before Anwar Ali Hyder assumed the chairmanship.
