The federal government has introduced a cashless payment system at passport offices across Pakistan in a move aimed at improving public services and making the passport application process more convenient.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the initiative through a post on X, saying that citizens can now pay passport fees using digital payment methods instead of cash. The new system is expected to save applicants from waiting in long queues and reduce the time spent completing payment procedures at passport offices.
According to the minister, the decision has been implemented under the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of the government’s broader plan to modernize passport services and introduce greater digital convenience for the public.
Naqvi said the introduction of cashless payments will help make passport-related services faster, more transparent, and more efficient. He added that the digital system is designed to simplify the overall application process while improving service delivery at passport offices nationwide.
The move is expected to reduce crowding at payment counters and provide citizens with a smoother experience when applying for or renewing their passports. Officials believe that shifting to digital transactions will also improve accountability and minimize delays associated with traditional cash payments.
The interior minister appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports and congratulated the department on successfully implementing the new system. He praised the officials and technical teams who worked on the project, saying their dedication made the nationwide rollout possible.
The launch of the cashless payment facility reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to expand digital public services and improve efficiency across government departments. Citizens visiting passport offices can now complete fee payments through approved electronic payment channels, making the process more secure, transparent, and user-friendly.
