A total of 52 Pakistani universities have secured places in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, with the University of Lahore emerging as the country’s highest-ranked institution by securing 71st place globally.
Released on June 24, the latest rankings assessed 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pakistan was among just nine countries with more than 50 universities featured in the global list.

The University of Lahore made history by becoming the first Pakistani university to break into the world’s top 100 in the sustainability-focused rankings.
Other top-performing Pakistani institutions included Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology, MNS University of Agriculture Multan, and Superior University, all of which were placed in the 301–400 global ranking band.
The THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities on their performance in research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. To qualify for the overall rankings, institutions must submit data for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals along with at least three additional Sustainable Development Goals.

Globally, the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom retained the top position, while Griffith University in Australia ranked second. The Philippines recorded the highest representation in the rankings, with 160 universities included.
