Pakistan’s security forces have shot down four drones allegedly launched from across the Afghan border into Balochistan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military described the incident as a failed provocation against Pakistan’s sovereignty, saying the drones were intercepted and neutralized before they could pose any threat. The development comes amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to the ISPR, the four rudimentary drones were launched on June 30 from territory under the control of the Afghan Taliban regime. The military alleged that the drones were sent with the patronage and support of terrorist organizations operating from areas controlled by the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan said the attempted incursion was part of hostile activities aimed at undermining the country’s security.
The military stated that Pakistan’s air defence network detected the incoming drones immediately after they crossed the border. Security forces, maintaining a high level of operational readiness, successfully intercepted and destroyed all four aerial platforms using advanced countermeasures. ISPR said the prompt response prevented what it described as a malicious attempt to violate Pakistan’s territorial integrity.
In its statement, the ISPR criticized the Afghan Taliban regime, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups and engaging in actions that destabilize regional peace. The military urged the Afghan authorities to stop providing sanctuary and support to militants and instead adopt the principle of peaceful coexistence. It further stated that such actions only increase the hardships faced by the Afghan people and do not contribute to regional stability.
The military also warned that any future cross-border provocation would receive a firm response under Operation Ghazab Lil Haq. According to the ISPR, Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend the country’s borders and sovereignty against any threat. The statement emphasized that every hostile action would be met with a swift, decisive, and effective response to safeguard national security and protect the country’s citizens.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign Ministry called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their longstanding differences through diplomatic dialogue. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Moscow referred to the recent border tensions and the “tragic episode” involving Pakistani airstrikes. The United Nations said on Monday that at least 28 people were killed in the strikes, while Pakistani security officials and the Afghan Taliban reported higher casualty figures. Russia urged both neighboring countries to pursue peaceful engagement to prevent further escalation.
