The death toll from the tragic roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna Nau area has climbed to 14, according to Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir. He said the children were brought to the hospital without signs of life after the devastating incident.
The accident occurred in the Qurban School area near Ferozepur Road when the roof of a classroom inside a tuition centre suddenly collapsed. Several children who were attending classes at the time became trapped beneath the rubble, triggering an immediate rescue operation.
Rescue 1122 received an emergency call reporting that between eight and ten children were buried under the debris. Rescue teams, ambulances and emergency workers quickly reached the scene and began removing the collapsed structure in an effort to save those trapped inside.
Authorities believe the roof was built using a T-iron girder structure, which may have failed and caused the collapse. Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether negligence or poor construction played a role.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran arrived at the site soon after the collapse to oversee the rescue efforts. Police officers, Rescue 1122 personnel and district administration officials worked together to clear the debris and transport victims to safety. The DIG instructed all relevant departments to use every available resource to speed up the rescue operation.
Children who survived the collapse were shifted to THQ Kahna Hospital, where doctors continued to provide emergency medical treatment. Faisal Kamran later visited the hospital to meet the injured children and their families. He also expressed condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives and assured them that the authorities would provide every possible support during this difficult time.
The heartbreaking incident has shocked residents across Lahore and raised serious concerns about the structural safety of educational buildings. Authorities are continuing their investigation as rescue and relief efforts conclude, while grieving families await answers about the tragedy that claimed the lives of 14 children.
