The government has reduced the price of jet fuel used by commercial aircraft by Rs7.15 per litre, offering relief to airlines as authorities seek to ease operational costs in the aviation sector. The latest adjustment comes amid changing global energy prices and follows recent fluctuations linked to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
Following the reduction, the price of jet fuel has been set at Rs231.72 per litre. The decrease is expected to lower fuel expenses for commercial airlines, which could improve operational efficiency and provide support to the aviation industry. Industry observers believe the move may help airlines manage rising costs, although any impact on airfares will depend on individual airline policies.
According to reports, jet fuel prices had previously been around Rs188 per litre before recent tensions in the Middle East contributed to higher international oil prices. The latest reduction reflects an easing in fuel costs after recent market fluctuations, although prices remain above earlier levels.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to keep the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel unchanged. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol will continue to be available at Rs299.50 per litre, while high-speed diesel will remain priced at Rs311.47 per litre for the current pricing period.
Despite maintaining fuel prices for consumers, the government has increased the petroleum levy on diesel by Rs6.57 per litre, raising it from Rs72.97 to Rs79.54 per litre. The petroleum levy on petrol has also been increased by Rs0.39 per litre, moving from Rs66.25 to Rs66.64 per litre. These adjustments are aimed at supporting government revenue without changing retail fuel prices.
The petroleum levy on kerosene oil has been left unchanged at Rs20.36 per litre. The latest pricing decision reflects the government’s effort to balance revenue collection with market stability while providing targeted relief to the aviation sector through lower jet fuel prices. Future fuel prices will continue to depend on international oil market trends and exchange rate movements.
