Microsoft has announced major price increases for several XBOX consoles, a move that could also affect buyers in Pakistan. The company has raised prices across its latest gaming console lineup due to increasing production costs and higher prices for key hardware components.
The biggest price increase applies to the XBOX Series X (1TB). Microsoft has increased its official price by $150, bringing the console’s new retail price to $799. The digital version of the XBOX Series X has also received a $150 increase and now costs $749.
The XBOX Series S lineup has also become more expensive. The 1TB model now costs $599 after a $150 increase. Meanwhile, the 512GB version has risen by $100 and now carries a retail price of $499.
Although Microsoft has not announced new prices for Pakistan, local buyers are expected to feel the impact. Pakistan imports gaming consoles, so global price increases usually result in higher prices at local retailers.
Depending on the exchange rate, import duties, taxes, and retailer margins, the latest increases could make some XBOX models significantly more expensive in Pakistan. Industry observers believe local prices could rise by as much as Rs. 50,000 for certain models.
Microsoft linked the latest price revision to rising manufacturing costs. The company, along with other technology manufacturers, is facing higher prices for advanced memory chips used in gaming consoles and other electronic devices.
The growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure has increased pressure on global semiconductor supplies. AI servers require large amounts of high-performance memory, reducing available supply for consumer electronics manufacturers.
As a result, hardware makers are paying more for important components. Many companies are now passing those additional costs on to customers through higher product prices.
Microsoft’s announcement came shortly after Apple increased prices for several MacBook and iPad models. The back-to-back announcements suggest that rising semiconductor costs are affecting multiple segments of the technology industry.
Analysts believe these price increases reflect a wider trend across the global electronics market. If memory chip prices continue to rise, more consumer devices could become more expensive in the coming months.
For gamers, the higher prices may delay upgrade plans or make new consoles less affordable. Buyers in Pakistan could face an even larger increase because imported products are also affected by currency exchange rates and local taxes.
