The PUNJAB government has completed the long-awaited Multan-Vehari Highway project. The road was once known as the “Qatil Road” because of its poor condition and frequent accidents. The completed project is expected to provide safer and faster travel for thousands of daily commuters.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the completion of the highway through a social media post. He said the project was finished in record time under the road development programme launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The upgraded highway stretches for around 90 kilometres. It passes through the districts of Multan, Khanewal, and Vehari. The improved route now offers better connectivity between important cities and towns across South Punjab.
For many years, the road was in poor condition. Drivers often faced damaged sections, large potholes, traffic congestion, and dust. These problems caused long travel times and increased the risk of accidents. Because of these issues, many people referred to it as the “Qatil Road.”
The PUNJAB government has now rehabilitated and dualised the highway. Officials believe the upgraded road will improve road safety and make travel more comfortable. Motorists are also expected to benefit from smoother traffic flow and shorter travel times.
The Multan-Vehari Highway is one of the busiest routes in South Punjab. Thousands of farmers, traders, students, transport operators, and other commuters use the road every day. The improved highway is expected to support the movement of agricultural products and commercial goods across the region.
Better road infrastructure may also help local businesses by reducing transport delays. Stronger road links between Multan, Khanewal, and Vehari could improve economic activity and encourage regional development.
Earlier this month, officials reported that nearly 80 percent of the construction work had been completed. They had set June 30 as the target for finishing the project. The latest announcement confirms that the work has been completed before the deadline.
