According to consumers, milk is no longer available at the government-approved rate of Rs170 per liter in many parts of the city. Instead, retailers are reportedly selling milk between Rs220 and Rs250 per liter, depending on the location. The significant difference between official and market prices has sparked frustration among residents, who say enforcement measures remain ineffective.
Yogurt prices have also increased considerably. Shoppers report that yogurt is being sold between Rs260 and Rs270 per kilogram in various markets, exceeding the rates listed by the authorities. Many consumers believe the continued rise in dairy prices is making it difficult for families to manage their monthly budgets.
Meanwhile, meat prices have also climbed sharply. Residents say quality mutton is being sold for as much as Rs3,500 per kilogram in some areas. The increase has made meat less affordable for many families and has added to concerns about the growing cost of essential food items.
