Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to introduce additional facilities for citizens under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Scheme and accelerate the approval process for eligible housing loan applications. The move reflects the government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable home financing across the country.
The instructions were issued during a review meeting on the progress of the Apna Ghar Scheme, where officials briefed the prime minister on the initiative’s performance and public response. Shehbaz Sharif described the positive feedback and strong participation in the program as encouraging, saying it demonstrated the growing demand for accessible housing opportunities.
According to officials, the prime minister instructed all concerned institutions and participating banks to simplify the application process and ensure that valid loan requests are processed without unnecessary delays. The government believes that reducing procedural hurdles and speeding up approvals will help more families, particularly those from middle- and lower-income groups, benefit from affordable housing finance.
The Apna Ghar Scheme is aimed at supporting home construction and ownership by offering subsidized financing and easier access to credit. Authorities believe the initiative can help bridge the gap for individuals who struggle to secure traditional mortgage loans due to strict banking requirements or limited financial resources.
Official figures released earlier show that the scheme has already disbursed more than Rs5 billion in loans to over 1,800 beneficiaries. The government hopes that further improvements in the approval process and additional facilitation measures will significantly increase the number of families able to build or purchase their own homes in the coming months.
Housing continues to be one of Pakistan’s most pressing social and economic challenges, with the country facing a substantial housing shortage and low mortgage penetration compared to many regional markets. Policymakers view affordable housing finance as an important tool not only for increasing homeownership but also for stimulating the construction sector and creating economic activity across related industries.
