A Sudden Crackdown in Lahore Is Shaking Up Daily Traffic Rules

The Lahore Traffic Police has announced a new restriction on the movement of loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws on key roads across the city. The decision aims to improve traffic flow and increase road safety for commuters.

According to officials, all types of loader and Qingqi rickshaws will no longer be allowed to operate on Canal Road and other designated model roads in Lahore. The restrictions came into effect immediately, and authorities have begun enforcing the new rules.

The move follows the end of a temporary relaxation granted during Eid ul Azha. During the holiday period, loader rickshaws were allowed on certain roads to help transport sacrificial animals. Traffic authorities said that special permission has now expired.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore stated that the ban is part of broader efforts to reduce congestion on busy roads. Canal Road is one of the city’s busiest routes and often experiences heavy traffic during peak hours. Officials believe restricting slow-moving vehicles will help improve traffic conditions.

To ensure compliance, Lahore Traffic Police has deployed additional officers at key locations. Traffic personnel will monitor roads and take action against violators. Authorities have warned that strict enforcement measures will be implemented.

The CTO also issued instructions regarding the transportation of construction materials. Individuals carrying steel bars, T-irons, and other iron rods on Canal Road may face legal action. Officials said such loads pose serious risks to other road users and can lead to dangerous accidents.

In addition to fines and challans, authorities may register criminal cases against those found violating these safety rules. The decision reflects growing concerns about road safety in Lahore and the need to prevent avoidable incidents.

Meanwhile, traffic police have launched a separate campaign targeting auto-rickshaw drivers who carry extra passengers beside the driver. Officials said overcrowding in rickshaws creates safety hazards and increases the risk of accidents.

The latest measures are part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic management across Lahore. Authorities hope the restrictions will reduce congestion, improve road discipline, and create a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians alike.
