Karachi Woman Reportedly Delivers Baby in Hospital Washroom

A dispute has emerged at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi after a family alleged that a baby was born in a hospital washroom because of a lack of timely medical care.

According to the family, they arrived at the hospital seeking assistance for childbirth but were allegedly advised to wait several hours before the delivery process could begin. They claimed that despite repeatedly requesting medical examinations and attention from staff, no immediate care was provided. The family stated that after enduring prolonged labor pain, the woman ultimately gave birth in a restroom within the hospital premises.

However, hospital authorities have strongly denied the allegations. Officials maintained that the delivery took place in the labor room at approximately 2:50 a.m. and described reports of a washroom birth as inaccurate and misleading.

The hospital administration explained that the patient had been referred from a PHI facility and was examined promptly upon arrival at the emergency department. Following a medical assessment, doctors decided to proceed with a normal delivery plan.

Officials further revealed that the woman was considered a high-risk patient due to low platelet levels and abnormal liver function test results. As part of her treatment, she reportedly received 16 units of blood and fresh frozen plasma (FFP). Medical staff continued monitoring her condition throughout the process.

The incident gained wider attention after a social activist highlighted the case on social media platform X. The activist stated that the newborn’s father, Akram, works as a driver in Karachi and chose Jinnah Hospital because he could not afford treatment at a private healthcare facility.

The family also claimed that the newborn required urgent medical care and specialized treatment. Due to financial difficulties, they reportedly had no choice but to take the child home.

After the matter surfaced publicly, efforts were initiated by concerned individuals to arrange the infant’s transfer to a private hospital for further treatment and medical support.
