Pakistan Railways Halts Operations of Eight Trains Temporarily

Pakistan Railways has temporarily halted the operation of eight passenger train services as it faces mounting operational costs and reduced passenger demand on various routes across the country.

According to railway officials, the decision was taken after a review of financial and operational challenges affecting several train services. Rising expenses have increased the burden on the national railway network, making it difficult to continue operating certain routes under current conditions.

The train services affected by the suspension include Bolan Mail, Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, Mehran Express, Chaman Passenger, Marvi Express, Saman Sarkar Express, Moenjodaro Express, and Ravi Express. These routes will remain suspended until further notice.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways stated that the move was necessary to manage growing operational expenditures. Officials explained that maintaining train services has become increasingly costly, particularly in recent months as transportation and fuel-related expenses have continued to rise.

Sources within the railway department indicated that higher petroleum costs have played a major role in the decision. Increased fuel prices have significantly affected the cost of running locomotives, adding pressure to the organization’s finances. At the same time, several routes have experienced lower-than-expected passenger numbers, reducing revenue and making operations less sustainable.

Railway authorities emphasized that the suspension is not permanent. They described it as a temporary step aimed at addressing financial challenges while evaluating ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Officials are closely monitoring fuel prices, operational expenditures, and passenger demand before deciding when the affected services can resume.

Pakistan Railways is expected to continue reviewing its network and operational strategy in the coming months. The organization hopes that improved economic conditions, stable fuel prices, and increased passenger traffic will allow the suspended trains to return to service.

For now, passengers who regularly use these routes may need to rely on alternative transport options until the railway authorities announce the restoration of the suspended services.
