The government has accelerated construction work on the Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway project. The project is also known as the M-6 Motorway. Officials say progress is now moving at a faster pace.
The Motorway project has faced long delays in the past. However, authorities now expect major sections to be completed between March and May 2029.
According to official documents, work is currently focused on Sections III, IV, and V. These sections cover the Nawabshah to Sukkur route in Sindh.
Section IV and Section V include Naushero Feroz to Ranipur and Ranipur to Sukkur. These parts of the Motorway are being financed by the Islamic Development Bank.
The Islamic Development Bank has approved 475 million dollars for these sections. The financing agreement was signed in January 2026 between Pakistan and the lender.
Prequalification for these sections was issued in December 2025. The evaluation report was submitted to the bank in March 2026. Contract awards are expected between September and October this year.
Section III of the Motorway runs from Nawabshah to Naushero Feroz. This section is being financed by the OPEC Fund.
The OPEC Fund approved 230 million dollars in March 2026. Bidding documents have already been shared for review.
Officials expect the contract for Section III to be awarded by October 2026. However, final approval from the lender is still pending.
Work is also progressing on Sections I and II of the Motorway project. These sections include Hyderabad to Tando Adam and Tando Adam to Nawabshah.
These two sections are being developed under a public-private partnership model. The project has already been approved by relevant authorities.
The Public Private Partnership Authority selected an international financial institution as transaction adviser in 2025. The Asian Development Bank later finalized the advisory agreement in April 2026.
Officials say the advisory study will be completed within four months. After that, the concession award for these Motorway sections is expected by February 2027.
Authorities say the Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway is an important national infrastructure project. It is expected to improve transport links across Sindh.
The project will also reduce travel time and improve road connectivity. Officials believe the Motorway will support trade and economic activity in the region.
