Petrol Pumps across Pakistan will continue operating normally after petroleum dealers suspended their planned nationwide strike. The decision came after successful negotiations between dealer representatives and the federal government.
The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association announced the suspension of the strike on Wednesday. The announcement followed a meeting with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to discuss the concerns raised by fuel dealers.
According to the association, fuel supplies will continue without interruption across the country. Motorists will be able to purchase fuel as usual, with no disruption in services at Petrol Pumps.
The Petroleum Dealers Association also supported the decision during a joint press conference. Representatives from both organizations confirmed that they would continue working with the government through dialogue instead of protests.
The dealers had earlier planned a 24-hour nationwide strike. Under the original plan, filling stations were scheduled to remain closed from 6:00 AM on Thursday until 6:00 AM on Friday.
The protest was announced in response to the government’s proposed daily fuel price revision mechanism. Dealers expressed concerns that the new pricing system could affect their business operations and financial stability.
During the negotiations, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik assured dealer representatives that their concerns would be carefully reviewed. He said the government would hold consultations with all relevant stakeholders before making any final decisions.
The minister also confirmed that dealer profit margins would be discussed in detail. According to him, a summary regarding the proposed revision of profit margins will be prepared and presented to the federal cabinet for approval.
Officials said the government wants to find a practical solution that protects both consumers and petroleum dealers. The aim is to ensure stable fuel supplies while addressing the industry’s concerns.
The government has also agreed to hold another round of discussions after two weeks. These talks will focus on reviewing the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism and evaluating suggestions from industry representatives.
The suspension of the strike has provided immediate relief to consumers. Many motorists were concerned that fuel shortages could occur if Petrol Pumps remained closed across the country.
The decision also reduces the possibility of panic buying and long queues at fuel stations. Businesses that depend on regular fuel supplies are also expected to benefit from uninterrupted operations.
Petroleum dealers said they remain committed to resolving their concerns through negotiations. They hope future discussions with the government will lead to an agreement on fuel pricing policies and dealer profit margins.
