Pakistan Extends Closure of Airspace for Indian Flights

Pakistan has extended its restrictions on Indian aircraft using its airspace. Pakistan will keep the ban in place until June 24. The decision was announced through a fresh aviation notice.

According to the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), Pakistan will continue to close its airspace to all aircraft registered in India. The directive was issued by the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA).

The restriction also applies to aircraft operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines. This includes both commercial and military aircraft. The decision is part of ongoing airspace control measures in Pakistan.

Officials confirmed that the ban covers both major Flight Information Regions. These are the Karachi FIR and the Lahore FIR. Both regions remain under full restriction for Indian aviation traffic.

Pakistan had previously set a deadline for the restrictions to end on May 24. However, authorities decided to extend the ban before the expiry date. The new extension will now remain valid until June 24.

The Pakistan Airport Authority said the move is based on regulatory considerations. No further details were provided regarding future decisions.

The closure of airspace has affected Indian airline operations. Flights traveling to Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia must take longer routes.

These longer routes have increased travel time and fuel costs for airlines. Operational expenses have also risen due to additional distance and delays.

Aviation experts say such restrictions can disrupt international flight planning. They also create challenges for scheduling and fuel management.

Pakistan has not confirmed when normal airspace access will be restored. Officials said decisions will depend on future assessments and conditions.

The situation continues to be monitored by aviation authorities. Any changes to the restrictions will be announced through official NOTAM updates issued by Pakistan.
