Scientists Discover Giant 27-Meter Dinosaur Species in Thailand

Scientists have discovered a new giant dinosaur species in Southeast Asia. The find is considered one of the most important recent paleontology discoveries in the region.

The newly identified Dinosaur Species has been named Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis. It was identified from fossil remains found near a pond in northeastern Thailand. The fossils were discovered nearly ten years ago.

Researchers confirmed the discovery in a study published in Scientific Reports. The project involved experts from University College London, Mahasarakham University, Suranaree University of Technology, and Sirindhorn Museum.

The fossil evidence includes parts of the spine, ribs, pelvis, and leg bones. One of the front leg bones measured about 1.78 meters in length. This suggests the Dinosaur Species was extremely large in size.

Scientists estimate that this Dinosaur Species reached around 27 meters in length. Its weight is believed to have been close to 27 tons. This makes it comparable to about nine adult Asian elephants.

Researchers say the Dinosaur Species belonged to the somphospondylan sauropods group. These were giant plant-eating dinosaurs. They lived around 120 million years ago.

This group of dinosaurs was widely spread across ancient land areas. They are known for their long necks and massive bodies. The new discovery helps researchers better understand their evolution.

The name Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis has cultural meaning. “Naga” refers to a mythical serpent in Southeast Asian folklore. “Titan” comes from Greek mythology and represents giants. “Chaiyaphumensis” refers to the Chaiyaphum province in Thailand.

Experts believe this Dinosaur Species adds valuable information about prehistoric life in Southeast Asia. It also shows that more large dinosaur species may still be undiscovered in the region.

Scientists continue to study the fossils for further insights. They hope to learn more about how this Dinosaur Species lived and survived in its environment.
