LESCO Uncovers Remote-Control Electricity Theft Method in Lahore

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has uncovered a new method of electricity theft involving remote-control devices. The discovery was made during a targeted operation in Lahore’s Shahdara area.

According to an official statement, LESCO carried out the raid on the instructions of Chief Executive Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt. The operation was part of an ongoing crackdown on power theft across the region.

During the action, LESCO teams inspected an industrial connection suspected of electricity manipulation. Officials said two individuals were caught red-handed while allegedly using a remote-control system to interfere with electricity meters.

The company reported that the accused were using the device to manipulate meter readings. This illegal setup caused significant financial losses to LESCO, estimated at around Rs. 6.5 million.

Following the raid, LESCO officials confiscated important equipment from the site. The seized items included cables, an electricity meter, and a transformer used in the illegal connection.

The suspects were arrested on the spot and handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation. Officials said legal action will proceed against those involved in electricity theft.

LESCO spokesperson stated that this new method of theft shows increasing sophistication in power fraud cases. The company is now reviewing additional monitoring systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The operation was carried out with support from multiple field teams. Senior officials praised SE Northern Muhammad Muzammil, surveillance staff from Jia Musa, and the M&T team for their successful action.

Authorities said LESCO is intensifying its efforts against electricity theft without any discrimination. The company aims to reduce losses and improve recovery of utility revenue.

Officials further added that strict monitoring will continue in industrial and residential areas. Surprise inspections will also be increased to identify illegal connections and meter tampering.

The LESCO management emphasized that power theft not only causes financial loss but also affects the overall electricity supply system. They urged citizens to report any suspicious activity.
