Fuel Prices Just Changed Again in Pakistan — What Happened This Time

The federal government has announced a reduction in fuel prices, bringing relief to consumers across the country. The new adjustment affects both petrol and diesel rates for the next seven days.

According to official sources, petrol prices have been reduced by Rs. 5 per litre. The revised price of petrol now stands at Rs. 409.78 per litre. Diesel has also been reduced to Rs. 409.58 per litre.

The Petroleum Division is expected to issue a formal notification soon. The new prices will take effect immediately from Saturday, May 16, 2026.

This latest change in petrol prices comes after a recent increase just a week earlier. On May 9, the government had raised fuel rates by Rs. 14.92 per litre for petrol and Rs. 15 per litre for diesel.

Officials said the frequent changes in petrol prices are linked to global oil market fluctuations. These adjustments are part of the government’s regular pricing mechanism.

Consumers are expected to feel slight relief due to the latest reduction. Transport costs may also see a minor decrease as fuel expenses drop.

However, analysts note that petrol prices remain relatively high compared to previous months. This continues to impact household budgets and transportation costs across the country.

The government reviews fuel prices on a regular basis, usually every two weeks. These revisions are based on international crude oil rates and exchange rate movements.

Energy experts say that global market trends will continue to influence petrol pricing in the coming weeks. Any rise or fall in crude oil prices directly affects local fuel rates.

The latest reduction is seen as a short-term relief for consumers. Many citizens were expecting stable or lower fuel prices after recent increases.

Authorities have not ruled out further adjustments in petrol and diesel prices depending on global market conditions. The situation remains under close monitoring.

For now, the revised petrol price offers temporary relief to consumers, while future changes will depend on international oil trends and government policy decisions.
