ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has once again become the center of debate on social media following comments he made about parenting, children’s upbringing, and mobile phone usage during a recent event in Islamabad.
While speaking at the gathering, Shahid Afridi discussed the importance of moral values, family responsibilities, and the growing influence of technology on children. He stated that providing only religious or worldly education is not sufficient, emphasizing that proper moral and ethical upbringing plays the most important role in shaping a child’s personality and future.
During his speech, Shahid Afridi expressed concern over the increasing use of mobile phones among children. He said many parents nowadays hand over phones to children simply to keep them occupied or quiet, adding that excessive dependence on mobile devices is becoming a serious issue in society.
The former cricketer also shared details about his personal parenting approach, revealing that he did not allow his daughters to use mobile phones before marriage. According to Shahid Afridi, parents should remain actively involved in guiding and monitoring their children instead of allowing technology to dominate their lives at an early age.
He further stressed that raising children should not be considered only the mother’s responsibility. Shahid Afridi said both parents must spend quality time with their children and work together to ensure proper upbringing and emotional support.
However, his remarks quickly triggered mixed reactions online. Many social media users argued that keeping children away from technology is not a practical solution in today’s digital age. Several people suggested that parents should instead focus on teaching children responsible and balanced use of mobile phones and social media.
Some critics described Shahid Afridi’s views regarding his daughters as overly strict or outdated, while others responded with sarcasm and criticism across various social media platforms. Despite the backlash, supporters defended his comments, saying he was highlighting concerns about modern parenting and excessive screen time among children.
