Karachi’s Worst Traffic Spots Are About to Change — Big Plan Underway

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to speed up the Karachi Flyover Projects. The aim is to reduce growing traffic congestion in the city.

The instruction was given during a high-level meeting at CM House. Officials reviewed ongoing infrastructure and road development schemes across Karachi.

Murad Ali Shah asked the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and Local Government Department to accelerate planning and execution. He stressed timely completion of the Karachi Flyover Projects.

The first project is planned at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi. It is estimated to cost Rs. 2.5 billion.

Officials said the flyover will include a 636-metre dual-track elevated structure. It is designed to separate through traffic from turning vehicles.

Under the plan, vehicles heading toward 4-K Chowrangi will use the flyover. Local traffic will continue using service roads at ground level.

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah briefed the meeting. He said nearly 80 percent of traffic will use the elevated route.

He added that this design will help reduce pressure on busy intersections. It is expected to improve traffic flow significantly.

The second part of the Karachi Flyover Projects focuses on 4-K Chowrangi. This project is estimated to cost Rs. 2.377 billion.

Officials said the flyover will improve traffic movement toward Surjani Town. This area currently faces severe congestion during peak hours.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said around 70 percent of traffic at the junction moves toward Surjani Town. This causes long delays and bottlenecks.

Murad Ali Shah directed departments to ensure both projects are designed for future traffic needs. He emphasized long-term planning instead of short-term fixes.

The government believes the Karachi Flyover Projects will improve urban mobility. They are expected to reduce travel time and ease pressure on key roads.

Officials also discussed coordination between departments to avoid delays. They said regular monitoring will be important for timely completion.
