After a video of Moulana Tariq Jamil apparently not shaking hands with a young boy went viral on social media, his son Yousuf Jamil came forward with a detailed explanation to clarify the situation and address public criticism.
Yousuf Jamil stated that there was no restriction or issue that prevented the handshake from taking place and acknowledged that ideally the interaction should have happened. However, he stressed that people should understand the complete background of the incident before making judgments based on a short viral clip.
He explained that criticism from the public is natural, but many people may not realize the demanding routine followed by Moulana Tariq Jamil . According to Yousuf, the renowned religious scholar meets thousands of people daily, greets admirers, takes photographs, and responds warmly to the affection shown by followers. At the same time, he added that even respected personalities can become physically tired and mentally exhausted after long schedules and continuous public interaction.
Providing details about the incident, Yousuf said the moment occurred during Ramadan at a madrassa during a Khatm-e-Quran gathering. He clarified that the child seen in the video was not a stranger but a madrassa student who regularly interacts with Moulana Tariq Jamil .
Yousuf further explained that on that particular day, Moulana Tariq Jamil had spent the entire day fasting, offering prayers, and remaining awake late into the night to lead Tarawih prayers while continuing his routine activities.
He emphasized that missing the handshake was completely unintentional and should not be viewed as deliberate disrespect toward the child. Yousuf urged social media users and critics to look at the incident with understanding and empathy, reminding people that even highly respected figures can experience fatigue after physically demanding schedules.
