Sindh Heatwave Intensifies With Temperatures Up to 49°C Sindh Heatwave Intensifies With Temperatures Up to 49°C

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, is currently experiencing a severe heatwave as extremely humid weather combined with rising temperatures has created an uncomfortable and suffocating atmosphere across the metropolis. Although actual temperatures remain relatively moderate, the “feels-like” temperature is hovering around 37°C due to high humidity levels.

A weather alert has been issued predicting continued hot and humid conditions in Karachi for the next three days. According to the Meteorological Department, daytime temperatures are expected to stay around 36°C, but residents will continue to feel much hotter conditions because of excessive moisture in the air. The humidity level during the day may rise up to 65%, further intensifying the discomfort.

Meteorological experts also noted that sea breezes and occasional winds from the west may provide slight relief in some areas. However, overall conditions across most parts of Sindh province are expected to remain hot to very hot and dry during this period.

Meanwhile, a stronger heatwave is affecting central and upper regions of Sindh, where extreme temperatures are likely to persist until May 11. Several districts, including Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur, are expected to experience intense daytime heat.

In these areas, temperatures are forecast to remain between 47°C and 49°C, making conditions extremely challenging for residents. Health officials have issued advisories urging people, especially children, women, and elderly citizens, to take extra precautions during this severe heatwave.

Authorities and experts strongly recommend avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak daytime hours. Citizens are also advised to stay hydrated by increasing their water intake and minimizing outdoor activities as much as possible to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Overall, the ongoing heatwave has placed much of Sindh under harsh climatic stress, with Karachi and surrounding regions experiencing prolonged hot and humid conditions.
