The Punjab government has released Rs2 billion for the construction of a 286-bed general hospital in Layyah. The project aims to improve healthcare services in the district.
According to district administration officials, the Punjab government is focusing on strengthening medical infrastructure in underserved areas. The new hospital will provide advanced treatment facilities to local residents.
Officials said additional funding has also been allocated in the current fiscal year. This funding will be used for the establishment of a medical college near the proposed hospital site.
The Punjab government plans to develop both institutions together. The hospital will focus on patient care, while the medical college will support medical education and training.
Authorities said this combined approach will help improve healthcare delivery. It will also create new opportunities for medical students in the region.
In other development updates, the district administration announced the restoration of the Bahadur Digital Library. The facility is being reopened for public use after a long delay.
Officials said the restored library will support students and researchers. It will also improve access to educational resources in the district.
The Punjab government has also moved forward on health emergency services. The long-delayed Chowk Azam Trauma Centre is expected to become operational soon.
Officials said the trauma centre will start functioning after additional funds are released. It will provide emergency treatment for accident and injury cases.
This facility is expected to reduce pressure on nearby hospitals. It will also improve emergency response in the region.
Meanwhile, a work order has been issued for the construction of a cattle market worth Rs1 billion. The project is part of ongoing infrastructure development in the district.
Officials said landowners will be paid in phases. Construction work will begin after necessary approvals are completed.
The district administration also confirmed that the existing District Hospital and the new General Hospital will operate separately. Both will serve patients independently.
The Punjab government has also announced plans to build labor sheds at project sites. Basic facilities such as clean water will also be provided for workers.
