Millions of consumers across Pakistan may soon receive major financial relief in their Electricity bills. Power distribution companies have requested a reduction worth nearly Rs64 billion for consumers, including those using K-Electric services.
According to reports, the country’s power distribution companies, also known as DISCOs, have submitted a petition for quarterly adjustments for the first three months of 2026. The request has been filed with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The regulatory authority is expected to hear the petition on May 19 in Islamabad. Officials said the requested relief covers the January to March period of this year.
The companies have sought a total adjustment of Rs63.936 billion. A large part of the proposed relief comes from reduced capacity charges. The petition includes a reduction request of Rs36.837 billion under this category.
Another decrease of Rs11.243 billion has been proposed under system usage charges and market operation fees. However, the companies have also requested recovery of Rs2.777 billion related to monthly adjustment losses.
Officials further stated that a reduction of Rs23.51 billion has been requested under incremental units. If approved, the relief will also apply to consumers served by K-Electric.
The possible reduction is expected to provide much-needed support to households already facing rising living costs. Many consumers have struggled with high Electricity expenses in recent months due to inflation and increasing utility charges.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has also announced plans to improve the energy sector. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently shared details about a provincial framework aimed at generating and distributing affordable Electricity.
The chief minister discussed these plans during a meeting with Danish Ambassador Maja Derrous Mortensen at the Chief Minister House. Both sides talked about investment opportunities, renewable energy projects, and environmental sustainability.
Murad Ali Shah said the Sindh government is working on low-cost power generation initiatives. He added that a Sindh-run transmission company is also being considered to improve supply efficiency.
According to the chief minister, better generation systems and reduced line losses could help lower costs for consumers. He said the plan would support domestic users and encourage industrial growth across the province.
