Govt Raises Petrol, Diesel Prices for Next 7 Days

The federal government on Friday approved another major increase in petroleum prices, adding further pressure on citizens already struggling with rising inflation and transportation costs across the country. The revised fuel rates will remain effective for the next seven days starting Saturday, May 9, 2026.

According to the official announcement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved an increase of Rs. 15 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel. Petrol prices were also raised by Rs. 14.92 per litre in the latest weekly review of petroleum products.

Following the latest revision, the new price of diesel has reached Rs. 414.58 per litre, while petrol will now be available at Rs. 414.78 per litre across Pakistan. The sudden increase is expected to impact transport fares, food prices, and overall business costs nationwide.

The government stated that the new fuel prices would be implemented immediately from Saturday. Oil marketing companies and petrol pumps across the country have already started updating their rates according to the revised notification issued by authorities.

This is the second consecutive week of significant fuel price increases. Last week, the government raised diesel prices by Rs. 19.39 per litre, while petrol prices were increased by Rs. 6.51 per litre, triggering criticism from the public and transport sector representatives.

Economic analysts believe continued fluctuations in international oil prices and pressure on foreign exchange reserves are contributing factors behind the repeated hikes. Citizens, however, fear that another sharp increase in petroleum prices will further raise inflation and living expenses in the coming weeks.
