Babar Azam Responds to Mohammad Hafeez PSL Remarks

Recent remarks by Mohammad Hafeez regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have sparked discussion, prompting a response from national team star Babar Azam.

According to media reports, Hafeez, while speaking during a broadcast of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, described PSL players as “advertising superstars.” He suggested that each year follows a similar pattern, where players receive significant promotion based on their participation in the league.

Addressing these comments in a podcast, Babar Azam chose a measured approach, stating that the remarks reflected Hafeez’s personal opinion. He avoided engaging in direct criticism and emphasized that the PSL remains one of Pakistan’s premier cricket leagues, where players consistently aim to perform at their best for their respective teams.

Babar further explained the difference between franchise and international cricket. He noted that franchise leagues like the PSL are designed to provide entertainment alongside competition, whereas international cricket places greater importance on the collective performance of all eleven players in a team. He added that due to the structure of franchise tournaments, where players are divided among different teams, it is difficult for every individual to deliver consistent performances throughout the competition.

The Peshawar Zalmi captain also highlighted the positive aspects of the current PSL season, pointing out that several young and overseas players have impressed with their performances. He stressed that the league continues to serve as a platform for emerging talent, with new players making their mark each year.

In conclusion, Babar suggested that Hafeez’s statement may have been interpreted differently than intended, which ultimately led to the ongoing debate among fans and analysts.
