Is Parvez Elahi Joining Pakistan Peoples Party amid PTI Rift?

Amid reports of internal differences within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, speculation has emerged regarding the political future of Parvez Elahi, with rumors suggesting a possible move towards the Pakistan Peoples Party.

However, Parvez Elahi has firmly rejected these claims. Speaking to journalists, he strongly denied any intention of joining the PPP, dismissing the reports as completely baseless. Responding to a question about the rumors, he remarked that he has no connection with the party and urged people not to spread unfounded information.

The experienced politician from Gujrat has had a long and dynamic political career spanning several decades. Beginning in the 1980s as a local council chairman, he gradually rose through the ranks to hold key positions, including Punjab Minister, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly on two occasions, Chief Minister of Punjab twice, a federal minister, and even the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister.

After parting ways with Pakistan Muslim League (Q), he joined PTI in 2023 and was later appointed as its president by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. His political journey reflects his continued influence in Pakistan’s shifting political landscape.

On the legal side, Parvez Elahi has faced multiple cases involving allegations of corruption, including issues related to development funds and recruitment. He has consistently denied these charges, describing them as politically motivated. Over time, he has been arrested on several occasions and has spent months in custody, while also receiving court relief on health grounds, including treatment for a spinal issue.

Overall, despite ongoing rumors, Parvez Elahi has made it clear that he remains committed to his current political position and has no plans to join another party.
