May 2026 is expected to be a holiday-heavy month in Pakistan. Reports suggest that citizens may enjoy up to 15 Holidays during the month. These breaks will come from public holidays, weekends, and Eid ul Adha.
The month may start with an early break due to Labor Day. It falls on Friday, 1 May. When combined with the weekend, it may result in a three-day holiday.
This early break will contribute to the overall total of 15 Holidays expected in the month. Both government and private sector employees may benefit from these extended off days.
More holidays are likely later in May due to Eid ul Adha. However, the final dates depend on the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.
If the moon is sighted on 17 May, Eid ul Adha may fall between 27 and 29 May. In this case, people could get a five-day break when weekends are included.
If the moon is not sighted, Zilhaj will complete 30 days. Then Eid ul Adha is expected from 28 to 30 May. This would also extend holidays further when combined with the weekend.
In both scenarios, the total number of 15 Holidays remains possible. The final count will depend on official announcements and moon sighting results.
There is also a chance of an extra public holiday. If the government declares Monday, 25 May, as a holiday, it could connect two weekends.
This would create an even longer break for many citizens. It may also increase the overall number of holidays in the month.
According to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the moon sighting meeting is scheduled for 17 May. The final decision on Eid dates will be announced after the meeting.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will lead the committee session. The announcement will confirm the official Eid ul Adha schedule.
