Punjab Signs Major Deal to Expand Livestock Sector and Boost Meat Exports

The Punjab government has signed a major agreement to expand the Livestock sector and increase meat exports. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the province’s agricultural economy and improving international trade.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a video-link meeting where the agreement was finalized. The government signed a memorandum of understanding with seven institutions, including Global Meat Company.

Under the plan, Punjab aims to export one million livestock. Officials said this step will help modernize the Livestock industry and improve export performance.

A Chinese company will also work with the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company. They will install a modern boiler unit for large-scale boiled meat production.

This system will support export-focused meat processing. Officials said meat companies will source products from around 300,000 export-ready animals.

The government has also set ambitious Livestock development targets. These include fattening 300,000 buffaloes and cows.

It also includes 300,000 sheep and goats. Another 100,000 goats and sheep will be raised specifically for export purposes.

To improve animal healthcare, the government will establish veterinary hospitals in every tehsil. Four mobile veterinary dispensaries will also operate in each tehsil.

These services will provide doorstep treatment for farmers. The goal is to improve health and productivity in the Livestock sector.

In a rural support initiative, the government has doubled the quota of free animals for women. This step aims to empower widowed and divorced women.

A total of 9,255 animals will be distributed across 12 districts of South Punjab. This program will support rural households linked to Livestock farming.

Punjab will also introduce modern machinery in Livestock farming. Farmers will receive up to 60 percent subsidy on equipment.

Around two million animals will also be tagged for traceability. This will help improve monitoring and meet international export standards.

Officials said the project will modernize the Livestock sector and create new job opportunities. It is also expected to increase exports and support rural communities.
