The Punjab Government has unveiled plans to develop Punjab Film City in the provincial capital, with the goal of reviving the region’s once-thriving film industry and restoring its cultural prominence.
According to sources, the project will span around 50 acres in Lahore and is envisioned as a dynamic creative hub where artists and filmmakers can bring their ideas to life. The initiative aims to present a vibrant and authentic image of Pakistan to global audiences while strengthening the local entertainment sector.
Officials revealed that the concept for Punjab Film City was first proposed nearly two years ago. Since then, extensive consultations have been held with professionals from Pakistan’s film and media industry to refine the plan. The project is expected to establish a complete, self-sustained ecosystem for content production, covering every stage from development to distribution.
The facility will feature state-of-the-art studios, modern sound stages, and advanced visual effects (VFX) and post-production labs. It will also include diverse outdoor filming locations, or backlots, along with a central lake designed to support large-scale productions.
In addition, the complex is planned to house a convention center capable of hosting international award ceremonies, as well as integrated media trade centers. A film and music academy will also be established to train emerging talent, alongside dedicated safety systems and emergency response infrastructure. A lively entertainment district is also part of the broader vision.
The initiative is expected to empower local creators by reducing dependence on foreign production houses. It will also generate thousands of employment opportunities for filmmakers, technicians, and related professionals once completed.
Authorities believe the project will help position Pakistan as a global center for creative excellence. The government has described Punjab Film City as a major step toward promoting innovation, culture, and artistic growth, particularly for the younger generation.
