Punjab Makes Green Property Certificate Mandatory for All Property Transactions

The Punjab government has made the Green Property Certificate mandatory for all land and property transactions across the province. The decision aims to improve transparency and legal verification in real estate dealings.

According to the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA), no property sale, purchase, or transfer will be completed without this certificate. The rule applies to all property transactions in Punjab.

Officials said the Green Property Certificate is issued after a detailed verification process. It checks ownership records and legal status of the property.

The certificate is currently being offered at a reduced fee of Rs. 900 for a limited time. Authorities said this is part of the initial rollout phase.

To apply, individuals must register a case with PLRA. They are required to submit relevant property and identity details before the process begins.

After submission, the Green Property Certificate process includes multiple checks. These include verification of the buyer and seller identities.

Officials also review ownership documents and legal history. This includes checking taxes, mortgages, and any ongoing disputes related to the property.

Field verification is also carried out to confirm physical property details. Digital records are checked through the PLRA system for accuracy.

The Green Property Certificate is only issued after all verification steps are completed. Authorities confirmed that it will only be granted if the property is found legally clear.

The government said the new system is designed to reduce property fraud. It also aims to improve record-keeping and strengthen trust in real estate transactions.

Officials added that the Green Property Certificate will provide legal protection to buyers and sellers. It will also help ensure safer property dealings in the province.

Authorities believe the system will bring long-term improvements to the property market. It is expected to make transactions more secure and transparent
