A consumer dispute involving Dawlance has escalated into major legal action in Karachi. The case relates to a faulty refrigerator and the company’s failure to comply with court orders.
According to reports, the Consumer Protection Court ruled in favor of a citizen, Ali Raza. He had purchased a refrigerator from a local dealer on December 3, 2021. The product was advertised with a 12-year warranty. However, the appliance reportedly stopped working on January 8, 2024.
The issue began when the customer approached Dawlance for a warranty claim. The company’s representative allegedly rejected the 12-year warranty. Instead, they stated that the product only had a one-year warranty. The customer was also asked to pay Rs 9,900 for repairs.
This disagreement led to legal proceedings in the Consumer Protection Court. After reviewing the documents and evidence, the court ruled against Dawlance. It ordered the company to provide a brand-new refrigerator to the affected customer. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs 40,000.
Despite the verdict, Dawlance allegedly failed to comply with the court’s orders. This refusal led to further legal action. The court then issued bailable arrest warrants for the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Umar Ahsan Khan.
The warrants were issued with a bond of Rs 10,000. Authorities directed the SHO of Civil Lines Police Station to ensure compliance. The court also set a deadline of May 7 for implementation of its orders.
Legal experts say such cases highlight growing concerns about consumer rights in Pakistan. Many customers have reported issues with faulty appliances and warranty claims. Disputes often arise when companies deny responsibility or delay action.
