Punjab’s education boards have introduced a significant revision to their examination policy, increasing the number of attempts allowed for students who fail from four to six. This move is aimed at giving students more opportunities to improve their performance and complete their academic requirements without unnecessary pressure.
Under the revised policy, students will now be permitted to appear in examinations up to six times within a four-year period. The new rule will come into effect starting from the 2024 annual examinations and will be implemented across all educational boards in the province.
The policy applies to students at various academic levels, including Matriculation and Intermediate, as well as those enrolled in O Level and A Level programs. By expanding the number of attempts, authorities aim to accommodate students who may need additional chances due to academic difficulties or personal circumstances.
According to officials, students who choose to take advantage of these extra attempts will be required to sit for exams based on the current syllabus in place at the time of their attempt. This ensures that all candidates are assessed under updated academic standards. The same rule will also apply to students who wish to appear in additional subjects after already passing their examinations.
Education authorities stated that this initiative is designed to create a more flexible and supportive learning environment. By allowing more chances, the policy seeks to reduce dropout rates, encourage persistence among students, and help them achieve their educational goals more effectively.
