Security forces have carried out a successful Bannu Operation, killing two terrorists, including a key ring leader involved in the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz. The action was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations in an official statement.
According to ISPR, the Bannu Operation took place after intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the area. During an intense exchange of fire, security forces eliminated Waheedullah alias Muktiar and a suicide bomber. Both were described as highly dangerous individuals linked to multiple terrorist activities.
Officials said Waheedullah was among the most wanted terrorists. He was involved in attacks against security personnel and civilians. He was also identified as the main handler behind a suicide bombing in Bannu on February 21, 2026. That attack led to the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz.
The ISPR stated that the Bannu Operation has brought the main perpetrator to justice. Authorities described the development as a significant breakthrough in counterterrorism efforts. The operation also prevented a possible large-scale attack, as a suicide jacket and weapons were recovered.
Security forces seized arms and ammunition from the militants. Officials confirmed that the recovered items included explosives and combat equipment. These findings suggest that the terrorists were planning further attacks in the region.
The statement added that a sanitization operation is ongoing in the area. This step aims to ensure that no other militants are hiding nearby. Security forces are continuing search operations to secure the region fully.
The military emphasized that such actions are part of a broader campaign against terrorism. The operation falls under the national strategy known as “Azm-e-Istehkam.” This initiative focuses on eliminating threats posed by foreign-sponsored militant groups.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability. They stated that operations like the Bannu Operation will continue until all threats are neutralized. Law enforcement agencies are working closely with security forces to achieve this goal.
