Maryam Nawaz Orders Wheat Procurement at Rs3,500 per 40kg in Punjab

Punjab has announced a major wheat procurement initiative aimed at supporting farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector.

Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to immediately begin wheat procurement across Punjab at Rs3,500 per 40kg. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held in Lahore.

The Chief Minister approved the plan in principle and instructed departments to prioritize farmers registered under the Kisan Card scheme. The focus is on ensuring fair and transparent procurement.

Maryam Nawaz also emphasized that farmers must receive payments within 72 hours of wheat purchase. This step is designed to provide quick financial relief and reduce delays in payments.

To improve monitoring, the government has set up Strategic Management Committees at both provincial and divisional levels. These committees will oversee procurement operations and resolve farmer-related issues on time.

Officials informed the meeting that around 900,000 farmers are already registered under the Kisan Card program. Loans worth Rs100 billion have been issued, with a recovery rate of 99%.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to continue expanding farmer registration. The aim is to bring more farmers into the formal support system and improve outreach.

Maryam Nawaz also announced a new initiative titled “Work with Punjab Government.” The program will offer internship opportunities to agriculture graduates and young individuals. It is designed to promote skills development and employment in the agriculture sector.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Green Tractor Scheme. Officials said the target is 30,000 tractors, while 20,000 have already been delivered to farmers across Punjab.

The scheme has helped increase agricultural mechanization in the province. It has also supported local industries involved in producing agricultural machinery, including harvester manufacturing units.

Maryam Nawaz said the government is focused on long-term agricultural reforms. She stressed the importance of modern tools, financial support, and better governance for farmers.

She further stated that protecting farmers’ interests remains a top priority. The government aims to build a stronger and more sustainable agriculture sector in Punjab.
