State Bank of Pakistan Simplifies Export Rules Offering Relief to Pakistani Freelancers

The State Bank of Pakistan has introduced major reforms to simplify export procedures for freelancers and IT companies. The move is expected to provide relief to thousands of digital workers across the country.

For years, freelancers in Pakistan faced delays due to complex paperwork. One of the main issues was the requirement to submit Form R for each transaction. This process slowed down payments and created unnecessary hurdles. Now, the SBP has removed this requirement for most transactions, making the system easier to use.

Under the new rules, freelancers and IT exporters will only need to submit a single declaration. This declaration will explain the nature of their services. It can be provided when opening a new account or updated when needed. This change reduces repetitive documentation and saves time.

Another key improvement is faster payment processing. The SBP has directed that export proceeds and transfers from Exporters’ Special Foreign Currency Accounts should be completed within one working day. This ensures that freelancers receive their earnings without long delays.

The central bank has also standardized documentation requirements. This step brings more clarity to international transactions. It also helps reduce confusion for freelancers dealing with foreign clients. Banks have been instructed to improve their complaint handling systems. This will allow users to resolve issues quickly.

In addition, the SBP has simplified reporting procedures. Changes have been made to forms such as Form R, Inward Remittance Voucher, and Form M. The threshold for Form R has also been increased above $25,000. This means smaller transactions will not require detailed reporting.

Banks are now required to digitize forms and introduce auto-fill features. These changes aim to make the process faster and more user-friendly. Freelancers will no longer need to enter the same information repeatedly.

Experts believe these reforms will boost Pakistan’s IT exports. By reducing delays and improving efficiency, freelancers can compete more effectively in global markets. Faster payments also improve cash flow for small businesses and independent workers.

The SBP hopes these steps will encourage growth in the digital economy. With simpler rules and better systems, Pakistan’s freelance sector is expected to expand further. Overall, the reforms mark an important step toward modernizing export processes and supporting the country’s technology industry.
