Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major Petrol Subsidy program to provide relief to citizens across the province. The initiative mainly targets motorcycle owners and small farmers facing rising fuel costs.
According to officials, the Petrol Subsidy scheme is already active for all registered motorcycles in Punjab. The program aims to reduce daily expenses for people who rely on bikes for work and travel. It comes at a time when fuel prices remain high and economic pressure continues.
Under the new policy, motorcycle owners will receive Rs100 per liter subsidy for up to 20 liters each month. This targeted Petrol Subsidy is expected to directly benefit thousands of low and middle-income families. Small farmers will also receive support, with Rs1,500 per acre provided for diesel usage.
The government has shared multiple ways for citizens to apply. Applicants can call the helpline 1000 for guidance. They can also download the “Maryam Ko Batayn” mobile app to submit their requests. An online portal is also available for easy registration and tracking.
Officials say the relief package is part of a broader strategy to support the public before the upcoming budget. The move also considers restrictions linked to international financial agreements, which limit large-scale subsidies. Despite these challenges, the government has introduced targeted relief measures.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced a significant petrol price reduction. The price dropped from Rs458 to Rs378 per liter after a recent increase. This reduction was made possible by adjusting the petroleum levy.
In addition to individuals, the transport sector is also included in the relief plan. Freight vehicles, buses, and Pakistan Railways will receive support to manage operational costs. This step aims to control inflation linked to transportation.
Authorities believe the combined measures will ease financial pressure on households. The relief package is expected to remain in place for at least one month. Further updates may follow depending on economic conditions and global oil prices.
