Sindh Launches Air Safari from Karachi to Mohenjo-Daro

The Sindh Tourism Development Corporation has launched a new air safari service between Karachi and Mohenjo-Daro. The initiative aims to boost tourism and showcase Sindh’s rich cultural heritage.

Officials said the air safari is part of a broader plan to attract both local and international visitors. The government wants to highlight historical sites and natural landscapes across the province. A private aviation company has partnered with STDC to operate the service.

The agreement was signed by STDC Managing Director Fayaz Ali Shah and the CEO of the aviation company, Imran Aslam. Both expressed confidence that the project would attract tourists and provide a unique travel experience.

The air safari will allow passengers to enjoy aerial views of Karachi’s coastline, mangrove forests, and the diverse landscapes of Sindh. Officials said the service is designed to offer both scenic beauty and a cultural journey.

Fayaz Ali Shah said the initiative has full support from the Sindh government. He added that the project will promote tourism, raise awareness of historical sites, and create new opportunities for the local economy.

About Mohenjo-Daro

Mohenjo-Daro is located in Larkana district and is one of the earliest major cities of the Indus Valley Civilization. The city was discovered in 1920, and its original name remains unknown. The term Mohenjo-Daro means “Mound of the Dead Men.”

The site reflects advanced urban planning for its time. It had multi-story buildings, a sophisticated drainage system, and the Great Bath, a large public pool with changing rooms. Historical evidence suggests Mohenjo-Daro was a peaceful city with no clear signs of weapons or kings. Experts believe it was abandoned due to changes in the Indus River.
