The Punjab Government has introduced a new plan to improve the performance of its Excise Department. The initiative focuses on providing electric bikes to field staff across Punjab.
Officials said the move is aimed at helping the department meet its Rs. 73 billion recovery target. Better transport is expected to improve field operations and efficiency. Inspectors often travel long distances, and improved mobility can support faster work.
Under the plan, excise inspectors in Punjab will receive electric two-wheelers based on performance. Both male and female staff are included in the scheme. Authorities believe this will motivate employees to work more efficiently.
In the first phase, the government will distribute 150 electric bikes. Additionally, 50 electric scooties will be provided for female inspectors. More than Rs. 50 million has been allocated for this project. Officials confirmed that the procurement process is in its final stage.
The distribution of vehicles is expected to begin next month. Once delivered, inspectors will use them for official duties. This is expected to improve tax recovery and enforcement activities in Punjab.
A key feature of the plan is the ownership policy. Employees will be allowed to keep the vehicles after three years. This means the bikes and scooties will become their personal property after the set period.
Officials say this step will increase motivation and accountability. It also provides a long-term benefit for employees. The plan combines performance rewards with practical support for daily work.
