Over 4.5 Million Phones Produced Locally in Pakistan in Two Months

Pakistan is witnessing a major surge in local smartphone production, signaling progress toward digital self-reliance.

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority data, over 4.57 million mobile phones were manufactured locally during the first two months of 2026. Of these, 2.03 million were smartphones, showing growing demand for advanced devices in the country.

This sharp increase in domestic production suggests that Pakistan’s mobile needs are now largely met through local manufacturing rather than imports.

Local Production Outpaces Imports

The data highlights a clear trend: production exceeds imports significantly. While 4.57 million units were produced locally, mobile phone imports totaled only around 8.7 million units in the same period.

In February alone, 2.88 million phones were manufactured domestically compared to just 400,000 imported units. This indicates that Pakistan is gradually reducing reliance on foreign mobile devices.

Progress in 5G Technology

Pakistan is also advancing in next-generation technology. In January 2026, 30,583 5G mobile phones were assembled locally. This demonstrates the country’s move toward modern telecom infrastructure and high-speed connectivity.

Decline in Mobile Phone Imports

As local production rises, Pakistan’s mobile phone imports are declining. February 2026 saw a 13.26% drop in imports compared to January. The import bill fell from $179.336 million in January to $155.547 million in February.

Industry experts see the rapid growth in domestic smartphone manufacturing as a milestone for Pakistan’s digital development. Rising production, combined with reduced imports, positions the country to build a sustainable and competitive telecom manufacturing sector.
