Washington, D.C. – In a significant development amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, President Donald Trump has announced a 10-day suspension of strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, creating uncertainty about the next phase of the conflict.
Trump shared the decision on the platform Truth Social, explaining that the move followed a request from Tehran. He also described ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations as “important” and “encouraging,” suggesting a possible opening for dialogue.
According to reports, Iran recently permitted limited passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, a step Trump referred to as a “gesture of goodwill.” He revealed during a White House meeting that 10 tankers were allowed to pass—eight initially, followed by two more after Iran reportedly expressed regret over an earlier incident.
Trump further noted that some of these vessels were carrying Pakistani flags, which he interpreted as a sign of improving communication and cooperation.
At the same time, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its support, stating that messages from Moscow have boosted morale among the Iranian public during ongoing tensions involving the US and Israel. He suggested that such backing could help Iran counter external pressure and contribute to long-term regional stability.
Pezeshkian also stressed the importance of regional nations maintaining their own security without outside interference. While some global figures, including leaders from France, have raised concerns over possible Russian involvement, neither Tehran nor Moscow has officially confirmed these claims.
