Albert P. Khorev, Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, has stated that Moscow is prepared to provide Pakistan with affordable oil if Islamabad formally approaches for a deal.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the envoy said Russia is open to supplying oil at discounted rates, adding that Pakistan stands to gain from the current global energy dynamics. However, he pointed out that, as far as he is aware, Pakistan has not yet made any official request for oil imports from Russia. He assured that if such a request is made, Russia would be willing to extend favorable pricing.
Khorev highlighted that the energy sector continues to serve as a major area of cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, with significant potential for further collaboration in the future.
Discussing regional affairs, the ambassador noted that Russia shares long-standing military and technical ties with Iran. He said Iran’s recent actions were aimed at US military bases in the Gulf region, emphasizing that the broader Middle East situation remains highly volatile and unpredictable.
He also remarked that recent military moves by Donald Trump have caught the global community off guard, making it difficult to foresee how the ongoing tensions will evolve or conclude.
Khorev strongly condemned a reported attack on a girls’ school in Iran that resulted in the deaths of around 170 children, calling it deeply disturbing and unacceptable. He urged all sides involved to exercise restraint and resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic channels in accordance with the United Nations Charter.
The ambassador further criticized the use of force by the United States and Israel against Iran, stating that such actions have intensified the crisis and could potentially destabilize the region further by undermining Iran’s leadership and unity within the Islamic world.
