Pakistan Railways has announced that it will run four special trains to facilitate passengers traveling during Eid holidays, responding to the expected rise in travel demand. The decision was made following instructions from the Minister for Railways, aiming to make travel easier and more convenient for the public during the festive period.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the first Eid special train will depart from Lahore to Karachi on March 16. The second train will run from Quetta to Rawalpindi on March 17. On the same day, another special service will operate from Karachi to Peshawar. The fourth train is scheduled to depart from Karachi to Lahore on March 18.
Railway officials explained that these additional trains are being introduced to help manage the heavy passenger flow that usually occurs during Eid. The goal is to provide travelers with comfortable and reliable transport options while reducing pressure on regular train services.
Meanwhile, the federal government has also announced four public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr. The holidays will run from Friday to Monday, allowing people several days to celebrate the festival with family and friends and travel to their hometowns if needed.
Forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) suggest that Ramadan may complete 30 days this year. If this prediction holds, Eid is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21. However, the official announcement will be made after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets on March 19 to observe the Shawwal moon.
Meteorologists believe the moon might not be visible on that day, but the committee’s decision will determine the confirmed date of Eid in Pakistan.
The introduction of special trains highlights the increasing demand for travel during Eid, as thousands of people move across the country to join celebrations with their loved ones. Pakistan Railways hopes these additional services will help ensure smoother travel and reduce overcrowding during the festive season.
